I was hoping to purchase guild wars (not sure which one) but wasnt sure if it would work on my PC.
when i typed in dxdiag it came up with:
System:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
System Manufacturer: Dell Computing Corporation
System Model: Dimension 2400
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A05
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Memory: 254MB RAM
Page File: 495MB used, 128MB available
Display:
Name: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip Type: Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller
DAC Type: Internal
Approx. Total Memory: 64.0MB
Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32bit) (70Hz)
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
Can someone please tell me if this is able to hold Guild wars. If it doesnt, it would be helpful if someone could tell me what to replace/ add.
I can see two problems with your system. The first one is an easy fix, 256MB RAM will get you by, barely. I would advise at least 512MB.
The second is your video card. 1) That video card shares system memory which would drop the amount of memory available to any application you run. 2) The Intel graphics controller works ok for business, but not games. It can not keep up and does not support DX 9 properly. There is a command line switch to put Guild Wars into DX8 mode and a thread here on guru that discusses Intel Graphics (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10323347).
Can it work; yes. Will it be enjoyable; perhaps. Will it be slow; Yes.
As for chapters, due to cost it is cheaper to get the trilogy at around fourty dollars (works out to be about 13 dollars per chapter) and you will have access to all but Eye of the North (which is another ten dollars at some e-tailers such as NewEgg.com).
